Starlink makes internet possible almost anywhere — as long as you can power the dish. A portable power station is the simplest way to run it at a campsite, on a job site, or during a home outage. The right size depends mostly on which Starlink kit you have.

Quick picks

  • Starlink Mini, a work day or evening: EcoFlow RIVER 3 or Jackery Explorer 300 Plus (about 5–6 hours each).
  • Starlink Standard, a full day off-grid: Anker SOLIX C1000 Gen 2 or EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus (about 9–11 hours).
  • Starlink Standard 24/7 with solar: EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus with 400W+ of panels.

How much power does Starlink use?

KitTypical average drawHow it’s powered
Starlink MiniAbout 25–40W (some users report brief peaks higher)USB-C Power Delivery (100W) or 12–48V DC barrel input
Starlink StandardAbout 75–100WAC power supply (router built in)

Power use rises when the dish is melting snow or working hard to keep a connection, so plan with some margin.

Runtime estimates

Using runtime ≈ capacity × 0.85 ÷ watts, with 40W for the Mini and 90W for the Standard:

Power stationStarlink Mini (40W)Starlink Standard (90W)
EcoFlow RIVER 3 (245Wh)About 5 hoursAbout 2.3 hours
Jackery Explorer 300 Plus (288Wh)About 6 hoursAbout 2.7 hours
Anker SOLIX C1000 Gen 2 / EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus (1,024Wh)About 22 hoursAbout 9.7 hours

Power the Mini over USB-C for longer runtime

The Starlink Mini can run directly from a USB-C Power Delivery port rated for 100W. Using the power station’s USB-C port instead of an AC outlet skips the inverter and typically stretches runtime. Make sure the port you use supports 100W output — many smaller ports don’t — and use a cable rated for 100W.

Our picks

EcoFlow RIVER 3 — Best small unit for Starlink Mini

245Wh · 300W · 7.8 lb · 110W solar. Small enough for a backpack-and-car setup. Check that the USB-C output you use supports the Mini’s power requirements before relying on it.

Anker SOLIX C1000 Gen 2 — Best for Starlink Standard

1,024Wh · 2,000W · 24.9 lb · 600W solar. A full work day on Standard, with spare capacity for a laptop and lights.

EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus — Best for running Starlink around the clock

1,024Wh · 1,800W · 1,000W solar. Running Standard 24 hours needs about 2.2kWh per day. With 400–600W of panels in good sun, the DELTA 3 Plus can recover most of that during the day, and you can add an extra battery for cloudy stretches.

Tips

  • Turn on Starlink’s sleep schedule (in the app) if you don’t need internet overnight — it can cut daily energy use a lot.
  • Disable snow-melt mode in warm weather; it’s only needed in winter.
  • Check the dish’s live power use in the Starlink app for a day, then size your battery from that real number.

Common questions

Can a power bank run a Starlink Mini?

Some large USB-C power banks rated for 100W Power Delivery can run a Starlink Mini, but most hold under 100Wh, so expect only a couple of hours. A small power station holds two to three times more and also has AC outlets for a laptop charger.

How long will a 300W power station run Starlink?

A “300W” unit like the EcoFlow RIVER 3 or Jackery Explorer 300 Plus holds about 245–288Wh. That’s roughly 5–6 hours of a Starlink Mini, or about 2.3–2.7 hours of a Starlink Standard.

Can I run Starlink 24/7 off-grid on solar?

Yes, with enough panels and storage. A Standard kit needs about 2.2kWh per day at 90W. In good sun, 400–600W of panels plus a 1–2kWh station can usually keep up; plan for extra storage for cloudy days. A sleep schedule overnight cuts the daily need substantially.

Does Starlink use more power in winter?

Yes. When snow-melt is active, the dish heats itself and power use can rise well above normal. Budget extra capacity for winter use.

AC or DC — which is better?

For the Mini, DC (USB-C PD or its 12–48V input) avoids inverter losses and stretches runtime. The Standard kit normally runs from its AC power supply, so plug it into the station’s AC outlet.
