By use
Short answer: yes. Any power station with about 1,000Wh of capacity and 1,500W or more of surge power can run a typical full-size refrigerator. A 1kWh unit keeps an efficient fridge running for roughly 10–17 hours; a 2kWh unit roughly doubles that. Small 300W units usually can’t start a full-size fridge at all.
Two numbers decide it
1. Start-up surge (can it start?)
A fridge compressor pulls a short spike of power when it kicks on — commonly 3 to 5 times its running watts, often 600–1,200W for a full-size model. If the power station’s surge or peak rating is lower than that spike, it will shut off or refuse to start the fridge. Look for a surge rating of 1,500W or more for a full-size fridge.
“Boost” modes like EcoFlow’s X-Boost help resistive devices such as heaters, but they don’t help motors start.
2. Daily energy use (how long will it run?)
A fridge doesn’t run constantly — the compressor cycles on and off. The best way to know its real use is the yellow EnergyGuide label (or the spec sheet), which lists kWh per year. Divide by 8.76 to get the average watts:
Average watts = kWh per year ÷ 8.76
Example: a fridge rated 438 kWh/year averages 438 ÷ 8.76 = 50W. A 700 kWh/year model averages about 80W.
Runtime estimates
Using runtime ≈ capacity × 0.85 ÷ average watts:
| Power station capacity | Efficient fridge (50W avg) | Older/larger fridge (80W avg) | Can it start a full-size fridge? |
|---|---|---|---|
| 245–288Wh (RIVER 3, Explorer 300 Plus) | 4–5 hours | 2.5–3 hours | Usually no — 600W peak is too low |
| 1,024–1,152Wh (C1000 Gen 2, DELTA 3 Plus, AC180) | 17–20 hours | 11–12 hours | Yes, in most cases |
| 1,070Wh (Explorer 1000 v2) | About 18 hours | About 11 hours | Yes — 3,000W surge |
| 2,042Wh (Explorer 2000 v2) | About 35 hours | About 22 hours | Yes — 4,400W peak |
| 4,096Wh (DELTA Pro 3) | About 70 hours | About 43 hours | Yes — 8,000W surge |
Real runtimes are shorter in hot weather, with frequent door openings, or when the fridge is recovering after being off.

How to make the battery last longer
- Run the fridge in shifts. A closed full fridge stays cold for about four hours without power. Plug it in for an hour, unplug it for a few, and check the temperature.
- Keep doors closed. Every opening makes the compressor work harder.
- Turn off the ice maker and water dispenser heaters if your fridge has them.
- Use a thermometer. Food safety guidance is to keep the fridge at 40°F or below.
- Add solar. Even 200W of panels can put back much of what a fridge uses on a sunny day.
What about mini-fridges and 12V coolers?
Mini-fridges use far less energy (often under 1 kWh per day) and smaller units may start them, but check the surge rating first. A 12V compressor cooler is the most efficient option of all: plug it into the station’s 12V car port to skip the inverter, and even a 300Wh unit can run it for a day or more. See our camping guide.
Common questions
Can a 300W or 500W power station run a refrigerator?
Usually not a full-size one. Even if the fridge only draws 100–200W while running, its compressor needs a start-up spike that is often 600–1,200W — more than a 300W unit’s 600W peak can deliver. Some very efficient compact fridges may start on a 500W+ unit with a high peak rating, but test it at home before relying on it.
How long will a 1000W power station run a refrigerator?
If “1000W” means a 1kWh-class unit, roughly 10–18 hours for a typical modern full-size fridge, depending on its efficiency and how often the doors open. Older or larger fridges land at the low end.
How long will a 2000W power station run a refrigerator?
A 2kWh-class unit like the Jackery Explorer 2000 v2 runs an efficient fridge for roughly a day and a half, or about 22 hours for an older model averaging 80W.
Can I run a fridge and a freezer together?
Yes, on a large enough unit. Add both daily averages (for example, 50W + 40W = 90W), make sure the surge rating covers both compressors starting at the same moment, and use runtime ≈ capacity × 0.85 ÷ 90.
Does running a fridge damage the power station?
No. Compressor loads are normal for these units as long as you stay within the continuous and surge ratings. Repeated overload shutdowns are the sign you need a bigger unit.
Which is better for a fridge: Jackery or Anker?
Both the Jackery Explorer 1000 v2 and Anker SOLIX C1000 Gen 2 have a 3,000W surge rating, so both start typical fridges. The Anker adds a 10ms UPS for automatic switchover. See Anker vs. Jackery 1000 v2.
